We must increase public awareness of concussions and how they are treated. — Dr. Vincent Schaller, M.D. DABFM, CIC, Director of MAC Alliance

ImPACT: Now Available for Home Use!

ImPACT test for home use

We’ve got some exciting news for MAC Alliance patients and the field of concussion testing in general.

Since 2002, ImPACT concussion testing has been administered more than 17 million times. Now, it is FDA-cleared for at-home baseline testing.

Where You Can Get ImPACT:

ImPACT Baseline Test can be purchased for $20 at https://baselinetesting.com/ and can be completed at convenient times, preferably early in the day when scores reflect healthy brain function.

Who should take the test:

A baseline concussion test should be taken by anyone who may be at risk for concussion. This includes student (over the age of 12) and adult athletes, or anyone whose on-the-job requirements put them at greater risk for head injuries, including first responders, professional drivers (DOT, Uber, Lyft, cabs, etc.), and construction workers.

How it works:

The easy-to-take, on-line test measures brain function in a healthy state. After an ImPACT Baseline Test is completed, users can store their ImPACT Passport ID using the ImPACT Passport app which can travel with the athlete from school to school, and from event to event. Scores can then be easily accessed by a concussion healthcare provider after a concussion to help determine what kind of concussion care is needed.

What may be prescribed:

An evaluation may be performed immediately on the sideline by an athletic trainer. If positive, the athlete should be sent to a healthcare provider. Specialists should be seen within one week. A post-injury ImPACT test should be taken within three days of the injury to compare with baseline results. A healthcare provider may suggest various post-concussion protocols, including immediate brain rest and targeted rehabilitation.
