Mid-Atlantic Concussion (MAC) Alliance partners utilize several state-of-the-art, advanced assessment tools to test, diagnose and treat brain injuries and concussions. We stay on top of the latest technologies to provide patients today’s best screening and assessment tools for faster and more accurate diagnosis of concussions, also known as mild traumatic brain injuries (TBI). With these tools, we are able to tell if there is trauma and whether the brain is functioning normally. Our goal is to obtain sufficient cognitive function information we need to provide the best treatment possible following your head injury or accident.
ImPACT®
The ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) concussion evaluation system is the most widely used and scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system. A computer and mouse are used in a 20-30 minute neurocognitive challenge test to measure verbal memory, visual memory, visual-motor speed, and reaction time. With more than 70 million patients in the ImPACT database, MAC Alliance experts are able to rapidly evaluate the test taker’s performance with a percentile score. Health care professionals and educators rely on FDA-cleared ImPACT to track recovery of cognitive processes and to make decisions about academic and professional needs following concussion. READ MORE
BrainScope® One
With this sophisticated EEG technology, MAC Alliance assesses the full spectrum of mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). BrainScope One is FDA-cleared technology that provides an objective, quantitative, and comprehensive assessment of EEG measurement and cognitive performance for mildly presenting concussions. We do so without having patients exposed to unnecessary radiation, compared to CT scans used in ERs for head injuries. A CT scan is often not necessary and normally would present as “negative” since concussions do not show up on them. READ MORE

Then a MAC Alliance concussion specialist reads and provides prompt data interpretation and treatment next-steps. READ MORE
Brain SPECT Scan
Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography, or SPECT, is a state-of-the-art brain mapping tool approved by the American College of Radiology to determine the location and extent of structural injuries using 3D metabolic images of the brain. Through our unique partnership with Amen Clinics, we now can provide Brain SPECT scans to our patients. We utilize Brain SPECT Scan technology in some of our toughest concussion and TBI cases.
