You don’t have to be a brawny football or hockey player to sustain a concussion. A simple fall can be all it takes to wreak havoc on a life, as our patient Monica K. found out all too well.
After a nasty October 2015 fall resulted in a severe concussion, Monica, retired as well as disabled, was referred to the MAC Alliance. A friend had also sustained a concussion and had received, the friend said, “excellent and compassionate care” from us.
Monica wasn’t unfortunately in the best shape before the concussion and certainly was worse after the accident. She was plagued by persistent headaches, had difficulty focusing visually and even experienced problems with her speech.
We immediately recommended vestibular and speech therapy, advising Monica that research showed that the sooner treatment began, the better the outcome.
Said Monica: “I met people in Dr. Schaller’s office who had been misdiagnosed and overmedicated by other physicians and clinicians who had very little knowledge of how to successfully test for and treat concussions. These patients’ sufferings had been long-lasting in duration. However, they finally ‘saw some light at the end of the tunnel’ when they began appropriate testing with Dr. Schaller and his helpful staff.”
We thank Monica for writing in with a beautiful letter in which she proclaims, “Dr. Schaller is the best of the best, and I sincerely thank him for his compassionate and knowledgeable care of my concussion and me.”
Patient-Centric Care
We’re constantly striving to improve our patient care. The level of comfort and satisfaction you experience from the MAC Alliance is just as important as our ability to treat you. Our jobs as healthcare providers mean not just providing medical care. We must be clear in our direction, and be frank, yet respectful of your individual needs and situation. We have to be good listeners and provide compassion and encouragement as we work with our patients on the road to recovery.
If you’ve had a good experience with the MAC Alliance, please write to us at drvschaller@dca.net or c/o Mid-Atlantic Concussion Alliance, PO Box 1734, Hockessin, DE 19707, and let us know. If you see an area that needs improvement, please let us know as well and we’ll be sure to try our best to address the situation.
Thank you!
