Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA)
The BIAA is a national organization that raises awareness and understanding of brain injury and provides help, hope & healing. Their website offers many resources to patients, their caregivers and their families. Whether looking for a support group in your regional area or finding an online support group that shares your experience, like a national TBI veterans group, the BIAA can help you locate one. Brain Injury Association of Delaware (BIAD)
The BIAD is an affiliate of Brain Injury Association of America and offers regional support for brain injury survivors in Delaware. Their services range from guidance programs, to support groups, advocacy, and educational programs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, BIAD offers virtual and phone options for support.
Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania (BIAPA)
The BIAPA is an affiliate of Brain Injury Association of America and offers regional support for brain injury in Pennsylvania. Formed in 2001, BIAPA provides a community of education, advocacy, supports, and research to maximize the quality of life for those with brain injuries and their families. BIAPA is directed by a group of committed volunteers and a staff of part-time professionals. They offer multiple programs, including local events, groups for students, and COVID-19 resources.
PINK Concussions
PINK Concussions is a non-profit organization that focuses on education and medical care for women and girls on all aspects of brain injuries. Whether sports, an accident, violence, or military service, PINK Concussions offers multiple online support groups and resources for women and girls of all different backgrounds recovering from brain injury. PINK Concussions is also involved in promoting research on concussions.
BrainSTEPS
BrainSTEPS is a program that is focused on recovering brain-injury students (K-12) and helping them re-integrate back to school. The model provides comprehensive plans and ongoing support for recovering students up to graduation. Pennsylvania’s BrainSTEPS includes 30 statewide consulting teams, consisting of education professionals, medical rehabilitation professionals, and family members. The organization includes community educational outreach as well.
Pennsylvania’s BrainSTEPS is currently funded by the PA Department of Health and the PA Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education, and is implemented by the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania. Colorado also has a BrainSTEPS branch that is based off PA’s model.
